Marcus Fraser

Marcus Fraser of St Mirren was born on 23 June 1994 (age 31).

Marcus Fraser, born on 23 June 1994 (age 31), is a Scottish central defender whose career began in Celtic’s system before settling into a far more substantial life elsewhere.

He came through at Celtic as a trainee, but his route to regular senior football took him away from the club. In January 2015 he left for Ross County, where he began to build the sort of first-team record that had not been available to him in Glasgow. His 2014–2015 league season brought 16 appearances and one goal, a modest enough return, but a useful step in establishing himself.

It is St Mirren, though, that has given his career its shape. Across six seasons he has made 214 league appearances and scored four league goals, becoming a steady presence in the middle of their defence rather than a passing name on the squad list.

He remained heavily involved in 2025–2026, making 31 league appearances with one goal, along with seven League Cup appearances, three in the Scottish Cup and two in the Premiership play-offs. Across all competitions that season, he made 43 appearances and scored three goals for St Mirren.

Fraser’s career has run from Celtic’s youth set-up, through Ross County, to a long and settled spell at St Mirren. It is a plain, durable career, built on regular football rather than noise.

Marcus Fraser remained a first-choice St Mirren centre-back in 2025-26, making 31 Premiership appearances with 29 starts. One league goal was a modest attacking return, but the selection pattern pointed to a senior defensive role, while six yellow cards reflected a season with regular physical involvement rather than serious disciplinary issues.

Fraser's career path moved away from Celtic early and settled into sustained Premiership service. After leaving Celtic for Ross County, he later joined St Mirren, where the current season data again showed him as a regular starter rather than a squad option. The trajectory was less about upward movement and more about establishing a durable role at Scottish top-flight level.

Fraser's transfer history was built almost entirely around low-risk moves: a trainee entry at Celtic, a loan to Cowdenbeath, then free transfers to Ross County and St Mirren. The Celtic exit in 2015 was the decisive move, trading academy status for senior football, and the later switch to St Mirren kept him at a comparable domestic level.
