Mateo Retegui, an Argentine footballer, was born on 29 April 1999. Now aged 26, he serves as a forward for Al-Qadsiah, primarily occupying the position of a striker. Retegui stands at 6ft 1in tall (1.86m) and weighs in at roughly 12st 10lb (81kg). In addition to his club commitments, he has also represented the national team of Italy.
As specified by Transfermarkt, Retegui's current market value approximates to a hefty £24m. Furthermore, his contract with Al-Qadsiah, set in place for 2 years and 4 months, won't reach its termination until 30 June 2028.
Retegui initiated his footballing journey in July 2017, having joined Boca Juniors in Argentina's Primera División. During his debut season (2018-2019), Retegui managed to secure just one appearance in first-team league matches. In January 2019, he was loaned to Estudiantes de La Plata, also in the Primera División. During his initial season, he featured in three first-team outings, expanding to 18 appearances and gaining four goals under his belt the following season (2019-2020).
Upon the completion of his loan in June 2020, Retegui returned to Boca Juniors, where he made another first-team appearance during his first season back. By October 2020, Retegui was on loan again, this time to Talleres. The year 2021 saw him participate in 24 first team games and achieve four goals on the field. His loan complete, Retegui was back at Boca Juniors in January 2022.
Yet another loan arrangement was in the cards for Retegui in February 2022, this time with the Argentine team Tigre. Here, he played 27 first-team matches during his first season, netting an impressive total of 19 goals. The following season served up 21 appearances and 11 goals.
July 2023 marked a pivotal point in Retegui's career, as he drew the attention of Genoa in Italy's Serie A and transferred to the European club for around £10m. While with Genoa, during the 2023-2024 season, he had 29 appearances and scored seven goals. But a year later, he had transferred again, to Atalanta, also in the Serie A, for nearly double the previous fee - around £19m.
His season with Atalanta (2024-2025) yielded his highest goal tally yet, with 25 goals from 36 first-team games. A successful run in Italy led to his most lucrative move yet - a transfer to Arabian giants Al-Qadsiah for a staggering £56m in July 2025. Presently in the 2025-2026 season, Retegui has already stormed the field in 24 games and has an impressive tally of 15 goals.
