Matty Cash was born on 7 August 1997 (age 28) and represents Poland, though his club career was built in English football. A right-back by trade, he came through at Nottingham Forest after an early grounding that included a useful loan spell, the sort of move that tends to strip away any academy polish fairly quickly.
Forest gave him his first proper platform. His most productive league season came there in 2018-2019, when he scored six goals in 36 appearances, showing enough drive and durability to move beyond the category of promising Championship player.
Aston Villa have since taken up most of the story. Across six seasons he has made 183 league appearances and scored 10 league goals for the club, becoming a steady presence on the right side rather than a passing squad option. His current market value is around £24m, according to Transfermarkt.
He remained firmly involved in 2025-2026, wearing the number 2 shirt and making 49 appearances in all competitions for Villa, including 35 in the Premier League, with three goals. He also featured for Poland in World Cup qualifying, making nine appearances and scoring twice.
Cash’s career is shaped mainly by his long spell at Aston Villa: developed at Forest, hardened by early senior football, and still relevant in a Premier League side rather than living off earlier promise.
