Matty Kennedy, the nimble forward hailing from Northern Ireland, was born on 1 November 1994. The 31-year-old now lends his skills to Kilmarnock where he predominantly graces the left wing. Standing at 1.75m (5ft 8in) and weighing 65kg (10st 3lb), Kennedy dons the number 10 jersey with pride.
It was back in July of 2011 that Kennedy joined Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership, marking the beginning of his professional football career. After frosting his debut in the 2011-2012 season with 11 first team appearances, he secured another 3 appearances in the following season. After a decade, Kennedy re-emerged in Kilmarnock's 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 seasons was noticeably more integral to the squad, making 35 and 19 first team appearances, scoring three and four goals respectively. Alas, in the current season of 2025-2026, Kennedy is yet to make a league appearance.
After a solid stint at Kilmarnock, Kennedy transferred to Everton in England's Premier League in August 2012 for an undisclosed fee. His time at Everton saw him loaned out to various clubs including Tranmere Rovers and MK Dons, where he made a total of eight and seven first team appearances in the 2013-2014 season respectively, netting a solitary goal for MK Dons. A loan spell at Hibernian in Scotland followed during the 2014-2015 season where he made 13 appearances, before he was transferred to Cardiff City in England's League One in February 2015 with fee details undisclosed.
His time at Cardiff was interspersed with loan spells at Port Vale and Plymouth Argyle, returning to Cardiff in May 2016, and culminated with a loan to Portsmouth in the Championship. Kennedy's impact varied throughout these stints, grabbing decisive goals and a generous amount of appearances notably at Plymouth Argyle, where he scored five invaluable goals rasping the net in 17 appearances.
July 2018 earmarked Kennedyโs move from Cardiff City to St Johnstone, again, in Scotland's Championship. A vital part of the squad, his two seasons were studded with a respectable 36 and 18 first team appearances, where he managed to thump in six and three goals respectively. Kennedy's final transfer was to Aberdeen in the Premiership in January 2020, again, for an undisclosed fee. While at Aberdeen, he demonstrated his utility with 68 appearances across four seasons, netting three goals. Kennedy's career has come full circle with a return to Kilmarnock in July 2023, marking a journey filled with several detours, but always under the gaze of the faithful Scottish lights.
