Max Oberschmidt, born on the 25th of January 1995 in Germany, currently plays as a goalkeeper for Energie Cottbus II. Standing at a height of 6ft 1in (1.86m) and weighing 13st 9lb (87kg), Oberschmidt boasts an imposing figure between the posts. The German's journey in football has seen him traverse through variegated terrains and leagues.
Oberschmidt's professional career took flight in July 2010 when he was embraced by Fulham, a prominent club in the revered Premier League of England. Despite the move marking a significant step in the keeper's career, his journey was far from a liner path and was stamped with multiple loans and transfers.
In August 2013, Oberschmidt was dispatched to Scotland, joining Celtic in the Scottish Premiership on a loan deal. The time at Celtic may have been brief, but was instrumental in cultivating the young prospect. His spell at Celtic was a stepping stone where he was handed opportunities to develop his skills and learn from experienced heads, thus moulding his style of play and equipping him for his future endeavours in competitive football.
His subsequent move in January 2014 saw him return to English football, but this time to a more humble setup at Slough Town, in the Isthmian League, again on loan. It was a contrasting experience; providing exposure to a more gritty and grassroots level of the game in England.
Oberschmidt then transitioned from English football to his homeland Germany, transferring to Energie Cottbus in the 3. Liga in June 2014 from Fulham. Energie Cottbus, then in Germany's 3rd division, served as a platform for Oberschmidt to find his feet back in his native football scene.
A year later, in July 2015, he shifted from Energie Cottbus to their reserve team Energie Cottbus II in the Oberliga, a decision that implied a step back but was more a part of the broader plan to develop the goalkeeper's potential progressively.
