Michael Duffy, born in Derry on 28 July 1994 (age 31), is a Republic of Ireland winger whose career has been shaped mostly on the left side of the attack. Celtic brought him over from Derry City in February 2015, a move that gave him an early step into Scottish football before his senior career settled back across the Irish Sea.
His Celtic spell sits early in the story rather than at the centre of it. In February 2017 he left for Dundalk, and that move proved more productive. His best league season came there in 2019, when he scored 12 goals in 34 appearances.
After Dundalk, Duffy established himself more fully at Derry City. By 2026 he remained a regular first-team presence, with 18 Premier Division appearances and six league goals. Across all competitions for Derry that year, he has made 21 appearances and scored six times, including two outings in Europa League qualifying and one in the President’s Cup.
Duffy’s career has run from Derry City to Celtic, on to Dundalk, and back to Derry, where he continues to play an important role. The Celtic connection was brief, but it was part of the route that led to his more settled and productive years in Ireland.
