Miguel Chaiwa, born on 7 June 2000 in Zambia, is a 21-year-old midfielder currently displaying his prowess with Hibernian. Standing at 5ft 10in (1.79m) tall and weighing 11st 6lb (73kg), Chaiwa primarily operates as a central defensive midfielder, donning the number 14 jersey. His footballing abilities have also seen him garner international attention, having represented the Zambia national team.
As of now, his market value is estimated to be around Β£1m, according to Transfermarkt. This represents significant growth since he began his career in the Second Division in Zambia with Shamuel. In July 2022, he made the move to Young Boys Bern in the Super League in Switzerland for a fee which remains undisclosed.
During his time with Young Boys Bern, Chaiwa was not a regular fixture in the starting line-up. In his debut season (2022-2023), he made a humble six first-team appearances in league matches, followed by three appearances in the following season (2023-2024), and ten in the 2024-2025 season. However, in-between, the club deemed it beneficial for him to gain more experience, and thus loaned him to FC Schaffhausen in the 1. Liga Promotion in Switzerland in February 2024. He was able to make 14 first-team appearances during his loan period before returning to Young Boys Bern in June of the same year.
Chaiwa's journey then led him to Scotland in August 2025 when he transferred to Hibernian for a transfer fee of approximately Β£700k. In the current season (2025-2026), he has made a positive impact at his new club, securing 17 first-team appearances and scoring a goal in his league outings so far.
Beyond his club performance, Chaiwa exhibited his skills on the international stage as well. He represented Zambia in the Africa CON 2025, making two starts. His performance at the club level has been equally notable. For Hibernian, he made two starts in the 2025-2026 League Cup and an appearance as a substitute in the Scottish Cup of the same year. In the World Cup Qualifiers Africa 2024-2026, he made three starts for Zambia. Noteworthy, also, were his two substitute appearances for Hibernian in the Conference League Qualifiers 2025-2026, where he managed to find the back of the net.
