Momo Sylla, born in the Ivory Coast on 13 March 1977, was a renowned midfielder, specialising as a Right Attacking Midfielder. Standing at 5ft 11in (1.81m) and weighing around 11st 2lb (71kg), Sylla primarily plied his trade within the rigours of Scottish football.
Sylla commenced his Scottish journey in July 2000 when he joined St Johnstone, a then emerging side in the Scottish Premiership. During his debut season (2000-2001) with the Saints, Sylla made a commendable 34 first team appearances, netting five times in league matches. The subsequent season (2001-2002) saw his participation reduced to a single appearance.
In a monumental move in August 2001, Sylla transitioned from St Johnstone to Celtic, buoyed by a transfer fee of around £650k. Following the move, Sylla’s seasons in Celtic green and white were of noticeable contribution. In his first season (2001-2002) with Celtic, Sylla made nine first team appearances, scoring once in league matches. The season that followed (2002-2003) saw him become a more regular fixture in the starting line-up with 18 first team appearances and two goals to his name. In the subsequent seasons (2003-2004 and 2004-2005), Sylla featured 14 and six times respectively in Celtic's league matches.
In a move down south in June 2005, Sylla transferred from Celtic to England’s Leicester City. His tenure with the Foxes was relatively quieter with 28 first team appearances in the 2005-2006 season and five during the 2006-2007 season.
A return to Scotland was in order in January 2007 as Sylla transferred from Leicester City to Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership. His spell at Kilmarnock was brief, constituting 11 first team appearances in the remainder of the 2006-2007 season. In September 2007, Sylla undertook another transfer, marking the end of his time in Kilmarnock.
