Moussa Dembele was born in Pontoise on 12 July 1996 (age 30) and came through in France before making his name in England with Fulham. Those early senior years mattered: he was not arriving at Celtic as a punt from nowhere, but as a young striker who had already had proper football put into his legs.
Celtic signed him from Fulham in July 2016 for around £500,000, a piece of business that aged rather well. Dembele gave Celtic power, penalty-box instinct and enough composure to make his age feel largely irrelevant. He was an important first-team player rather than a passenger in a strong side.
In August 2018 he left Celtic for Lyon for around £20m, one of the more obvious examples of Celtic buying well and selling at the right end of the market. His career after Glasgow took in Al-Ettifaq before he became more firmly established at Lyon, where his most productive league season came in 2021-22, with 21 goals in 30 appearances.
Dembele is now a striker with Al-Ettifaq. In 2026-27, he has started sharply in the Pro League, scoring three times in one appearance. His career has run from Fulham to Celtic, on to Lyon and then Saudi Arabia, with the Celtic spell still standing as the point where his promise was turned into serious value.
