Paul Hanlon, born on 20 January 1990 (age 36), is a Scottish central defender with Raith Rovers. He wears the number four shirt and remains a regular first-team presence rather than a name being eased quietly towards the margins.
His career is overwhelmingly a Hibernian one. After an early loan spell gave him senior football, Hanlon settled into the Hibs back line and stayed there for 17 seasons, making 453 league appearances and scoring 22 league goals. His most productive league campaign came in 2014–15, when he scored four times in 31 appearances.
Hanlon’s long run at Easter Road was built less on fuss than availability and trust. Centre-halves who last that long at one club tend not to do so by accident, though it rarely makes for noisy copy. Hibs got a durable defender across several eras of the side.
At Raith Rovers in 2025–26, he has made 33 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice. That includes 32 Championship appearances and one Scottish Cup outing. His current market value is around £85,000, according to Transfermarkt.
Hanlon’s career has been shaped by long service at Hibernian, with Raith Rovers providing a late-career spell in which he is still playing regular football.
