Paulo Bernardo, or as he is also known, 'Paulo Bernardo' Gonçalves Bernardo, was born on the 24th of January 2002 (at the ripe age of 24) in the football-loving nation of Portugal. This particular midfielder's chosen ground is as a central midfielder, currently pressing the grass of Celtic Football Club, all whilst bearing the number 28 on his jersey. His physicality is notable, standing at a height of 5ft 10in (1.8m) and weighing in at 12st 1lb (77kg). Fans are fondly familiar with his performances for the Portugal U21 national team as well.

Tracing his career footsteps back to July 2010, Bernardo started his football sensei pathway at the respected Benfica institution in Liga Portugal. In his introductory season of 2021-2022, he saw through 17 first team appearances in league matches. A commendable start, indeed.
By January 2023, Bernardo was temporarily shipped off to Paços de Ferreira, another competitive outfit in Liga Portugal 2. His stint there in 2022-2023 season saw him play 13 league matches and knock in two goals.
Something of note on our dear lad's career map was of course his trek from Portugal to Scotland. It was in September 2023 that Bernardo swapped Portuguese boulevards for Scottish braes, scoring a loan deal at Celtic from Benfica. His first season in 2023-2024 under the Celtic lights resulted in 22 league appearances and three goals. In the following season, 2024-2025, Bernardo tallied up 28 league appearances at Celtic, accompanied by two touch-net events, namely goals. The current season, 2025-2026, has Bernardo keen on reaching double digits with his eight league appearances to date.
It was in August 2024 when Bernardo permanently pitched his tent at Celtic, parting ways from Benfica on a fee near the mark of £3.5m. Subsequent seasons at Celtic witnessed Bernardo marking 22 league appearances for 2023-2024, 28 for 2024-2025 with two goals to boot, and eight thus far in the current term.
The player didn't confine his talents to league matches alone. Bernardo’s participation in Celtic's 2025-2026 League Cup saw him step in twice as a substitute. In the Scottish Cup of the same year, Bernardo had two starts along with one substitute appearance. He took his national colours to the UEFA U21 Qualifiers in 2025, scoring a goal across four starts. And lastly, brought his Year 2025-2026 performances a full circle with two starts and five substitute appearances in Celtic's Europa League run.
