A creative inside forward, Peter Somers was a mainstay of the Celtic team which dominated Scottish football in the Edwardian era. He began in local football in the Motherwell area and appeared briefly for Hamilton Academical, but signed for Celtic in 1897. He took time to develop into an effective team player, and went on loan to Clyde and then to Blackburn Rovers.
