Phil O'Donnell was a midfielder of some repute in the Scottish Premiership, born on the 25th of March, 1972. O'Donnell stood at 5ft 10in tall (or 1.8m for those of a metric persuasion) and tipped the scales at around 12st 10lb (81kg).
His football career embarked in earnest with Motherwell in July 1989, where he joined as a trainee. The seasons between 1990 and 1994 saw him become a regular feature in the first team, with his most prolific period arriving in the 1993 - 1994 season, netting seven goals across 35 appearances.
September 1994 saw O’Donnell head for pastures new, as Celtic parted with a cool £1.8m to secure his services. Over his tenure at Celtic Park, which spanned the seasons between 1994 and 1999, O'Donnell made a solid contribution, clocking up a total of 90 appearances riddled with intermittent bouts of goal-scoring prowess.
He parted ways with Celtic, making a move to Sheffield Wednesday in July 1999. A tenure marked more by his absences than his participation, O'Donnell was sparsely called upon across his four seasons at the club, making a combined total of only 20 appearances.
The pull of Motherwell remained strong for O'Donnell, who returned to his inaugural club in January 2004. The four subsequent years, up until 2008, witnessed a career swansong of sorts, with O'Donnell making steady, if not spectacular, contributions. Highlights included 29 appearances in the 2005 - 2006 season, along with sporadic goalscoring across the span of his final tenure.
The curtain lowered upon Phil O'Donnell's illustrious career in December 2007, concluding a sporting journey that spanned more than two decades and left a resounding impact on the Scottish football landscape.
