Pierre Ekwah, born on 15 January 2002 (age 24), is a French central defensive midfielder at Saint-Etienne. His market value is around £2.5m, according to Transfermarkt.
Sunderland is where his senior career has had its clearest shape. Across two seasons there, Ekwah made 54 league appearances and scored five league goals, all of them coming in 2023-24, when he played 40 times in the league. That remains the most productive spell of his career so far, both in terms of minutes and output.
He later moved on to Saint-Etienne, where he has continued as a defensive midfield option. He was linked with Celtic in September 2025 while at the French club, though that sits as transfer context rather than a completed move.
Ekwah’s career to date is still a developing one, but Sunderland has provided the main body of evidence: regular league football, a clear role in midfield, and a season in which he added a modest goal return from deeper areas.
