In the feverish hubbub of global football, our protagonist, the Ivory Coast-born Richard Kone recently celebrated his 22nd birthday. This is a lad who once viewed football from the dusty pitches of his homeland, and now finds himself fronting the assault as a forward for Queens Park Rangers, primarily playing as a striker, isn't the universe a strange one?
Standing tall at 6 feet (1.85 metres) and weighing in at 12 stone 1lb (77kg), it isn't as if Kone is easy to miss on the pitch. After all, his physicality does come in handy when it's a Sunday afternoon and Queens Park Rangers are trying everything but throwing the kitchen sink at their opponents.
According to those boffins at Transfermarkt, Kone is currently valued at a measly €600k which equates to something in the region of £510k give or take a bob or two. Quite the snip if you ask me considering his contract at QPR is set to burst into flames come June 30, 2026.
Our friend, Richard Kone hasn't been one to shirk a transfer either. The lad started off his English footballing odyssey with Athletic Newham in the Isthmian League (whatever that is...). His performances there earned him a move to Wycombe Wanderers in England's League One in the frosty month of January 2024. Of course, the Wanderers being cagey as ever, didn't disclose the fee for this promising talent. You can't fault their stealth, can you?
Then in the dog days of August 2025, in classic football fashion, our man, Kone, then took a leap up the ladder. He transferred from Wycombe Wanderers to the coziness of the Championship with Queens Park Rangers for a princely sum of about £5m. Not a penny more, not a penny less. From the humble Isthmian League to the bright lights of the Championship in a flash, quite the climb don't you think?
No mention of a stint at Celtic, eh? What a pity!
