Ryan Christie, born in Scotland on 22nd February 1995, is a central defensive midfielder. He currently graces the pitch for Bournemouth, where he holds the number 10 jersey. Standing at 1.78m (5ft 10in) and weighing 71kg (11st 2lb), Christie is also a noted figure in the Scotland national team.
Christie's career began with Inverness CT in the Scottish League One, joining the club in July 2011. His initial impact was noticeable, particularly during the 2013-2014 season where he clocked up 15 first-team appearances and scored three times. His role continued to expand, making 35 appearances in the 2014-2015 campaign, netting four goals. In the 2015-2016 season, Christie made 13 first team appearances and scored three more league goals.
A major turning point in Christie's career was his transfer to Celtic in September 2015, a deal that came at a cost of around £500,000. Celtic were then participating in the Premiership and saw potential in their new midfielder. He played five matches and scored a goal in his first season with the Hoops. However, his time at Celtic initially involved a loan back to Inverness CT, where he seemingly continued as before, again netting three goals in 13 appearances.
By January 2016, his loan spell was over and Christie moved back to Celtic, marking the beginning of his significant tenure with the club. Christie's second and third seasons at Celtic consisted of five appearances and a goal in each, but by 2018 his role started to increase. In the 2018-2019 season, he made 23 first team appearances and scored an impressive nine goals. He managed to top this in the following season with 24 appearances and 11 goals. However, in the 2020-2021 season, despite making 34 first team appearances, he only managed to net five goals. His final season with the Hoops saw a less active Christie, with only four appearances.
Amid his long stretch at Celtic, he spent two seasons on loan at Aberdeen from January 2017 till June 2018, with 13 and 32 appearances respectively and a total of ten goals.
By August 2021, Christie had transferred from Celtic to Bournemouth in England's Premier League for an undisclosed fee. He has steadily made his mark at Bournemouth, with the 2021-2022 season depositing three goals from 38 appearances. The following seasons saw a steady stream of appearances and a few more goals to his name. His current season, 2025-2026, has seen him make seven starts and score one league goal thus far.
Christie has not only left his mark at club level but also on the international stage, participating in various Scottish campaigns including World Cup Qualifiers, the Euro 2024 and the Nations League - where he netted a goal. He also played in the 2024-2025 FA Cup and 2025-2026 League Cup, both for Bournemouth. Overall, Christie's career shows an example of a dedicated and resilient midfielder who knows how to make an impact.
