Sam Nicholson, born on 20 January 1995 in Scotland, is a 30-year-old forward who plays primarily as a right winger for Motherwell. Standing at about 5ft 8in (1.75m) and weighing about 11st 2lb (71kg), Nicholson dons the number 19 jersey for the team.

Earlier in his career, Nicholson joined Hearts in the Scottish Premiership as a trainee in July 2011. From his debut season in 2013-2014 until the 2016-2017 season, Nicholson made a total of 109 appearances and scored 14 league goals for Hearts.
In July 2017, Nicholson swapped the Scottish Premiership for Major League Soccer as he transferred to Minnesota United in the United States. During his time at Minnesota, Nicholson made 20 appearances and netted twice in league matches.
His stint at Minnesota United was short-lived as he transferred to Colorado Rapids, another MLS side, in May 2018. Nicholson spent a significant portion of his career at Colorado, appearing a total of 85 times and scoring 6 goals in league matches from 2018 to 2023, with a brief return to Britain with Bristol Rovers in between.
Nicholson made the move back to his home country in January 2024, signing for Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership. During his time so far at Motherwell, Nicholson has made 25 appearances and scored twice in league matches. As of now in the 2025-2026 season, Nicholson has yet to make a first-team appearance.
