Sean Kelly, born on 1 November 1993 in Scotland, is a retired footballer who excelled as a central defensive midfielder. Standing at 6ft 2in (1.88m) tall and tipping the scales at 11st 6lb (73kg), Kelly primarily spent his career playing in Scotland and exhibited significant progress in evolving teams.
Kelly made his move into professional football when he was picked up by St Mirren in the Premiership in Scotland in July 2011. Here, Kelly showcased his midfield capabilities, making 33 appearances and scoring one goal in the 2013-2014 season. During the following 2014-2015 season, Kelly made 31 appearances and netted the ball three times. His contributions persisted in the 2015-2016 season as well, leading to 26 appearances and two goals.
In a brief departure from his home ground, Kelly was loaned out to East Stirlingshire in the Lowland League in Scotland in August 2012. Here, he demonstrated his skills in another Scottish football environment, making a total of nine first-team league appearances in the debut season. He returned to St Mirren to play for the Premiership in February 2013.
Upon his return, Kelly continued his steady performance with St Mirren replicating his previous efforts by scoring one goal in the 2013-2014 season from 33 appearances, three goals from 31 appearances in the 2014-2015 season, and two goals in the 2015-2016 season from 26 appearances.
In August 2016, Kelly explored football beyond Scottish borders by transferring to AFC Wimbledon in England's League One. While at Wimbledon, he made 26 first-team appearances and scored two goals in the 2016-2017 season. However, just a year later in July 2017, he returned to Scotland, this time joining Ross County in the Championship. Over the course of two seasons (2017-2018 and 2019-2020), he made a total of 31 first-team appearances.
Kelly furthered his football journey by moving to Falkirk in the Premiership in Scotland in October 2020. A year later, in July 2021, he relocated to Livingston, also in the Scottish Premiership. Over his time at Livingston across three seasons (2021-2024) Kelly made 68 appearances and scored a total of six goals.
A summary departure took him to Karmiotissa in the B Class in Cyprus in July 2024. However, his stint here was brief, as he returned to Scotland in November of the same year joining Dundee in the Premiership, where he made three first-team appearances in the 2024-2025 season.
In February 2025, Kelly spent a brief spell at Partick Thistle in the Scottish Championship, where he stepped on the pitch for five first-team league matches. As of June 2025, Kelly has transferred away from Partick Thistle.
