Born on 13 July 2002 in Norway, Sebastian Tounekti finds himself at the ripe age of 23 delivering commanding performances as a forward for Celtic. Primarily spearheading attacks from the left wing, Tounekti utilises his stature of 1.71m (5ft 7in) and weight of 65kg (10st 3lb) effectively to hold his ground in the Scottish Premiership. Donning the number 23 jersey, his talents have not only been recognised locally, but have also earned him a spot in the Tunisia national team.
As of 2025, Tounekti's market value sits at approximately £3.4m, a figure provided by Transfermarkt.
Tracing back his journey, Tounekti experienced his breakthrough in top-flight football with a sudden switch from Tromsdalen in the 2. Divisjon of Norway to higher-flying Bodo Glimt in the Eliteserien during March 2020. Although his first season was primarily spent adjusting to the rhythm of elite competition, he managed to score once in his nine league appearances.
In the following 2021 season, his contribution was limited to five games before a loan move to FC Groningen in the Eredivisie of the Netherlands in August 2021 beckoned. After a year-long expedition in the Dutch top flight, he returned to Bodo Glimt in June 2022, where he resumed his professional development.
After further spells in the Eliteserien with Bodo Glimt and Haugesund, accumulating 50 league appearances and 5 goals over three seasons, Tounekti found himself tipping the transcontinental scale, transferring to Hammarby IF in the Allsvenskan of Sweden in February 2025 for a rounded figure of £1m.
After a swift tenure at Hammarby which saw him feature in 21 league matches and net twice, our protagonist in green and white secured a transfer in September 2025 to the Scottish giants, Celtic. Currrently in the 2025/26 season with Celtic, Tounekti has marked his debut term with one goal in 11 league outings.
Beyond the domestic front, he has also dabbled in various competitions, marking his name in the League Cup 2025/26 for Celtic with one goal in three starts, the World Cup Qualifiers Africa 2024/26 for Tunisia with one start and one substitute appearance, and the Europa League 2025/26 with Celtic, tallying five starts and one appearance from the bench.
As Celtic's latest connection to Scandinavia, we eagerly anticipate the chapters Tounekti will script in the annals of our beloved club.
