Sékou Mara, born on 30 July 2002, is a 23 year-old forward who presently plies his trade as a striker for Auxerre. Hailed from France, his relatively towering frame of 6 foot (1.84m) and weight of 12.8 stone (80kg) gives him a significant physical presence on the pitch. Mara's journey to professional football commenced in Bordeaux, where he joined the club's academy in July 2017 and started his career in the Championnat National in France. In the course of his debut season (2020-2021) at Bordeaux, he secured his place in the first team after logging eight appearances and netting one goal in league matches. The succeeding season (2021 - 2022) saw Mara make further inroads as he played 26 matches and scored six goals for Bordeaux.
The opportunity to experience English football came a-knocking in July 2022 as Southampton shelled out a reported fee of about £12m to acquire his services. His two-year stint (2022-2024) in the Championship saw him feature in 50 league matches, scoring four goals in total. Thereafter, his next venture took him back to France, with Strasbourg signing him for an estimated fee of £10m in August 2024. The 2024 - 2025 season saw Mara make 25 first team appearances and score one goal for Strasbourg in the Ligue 1.
Subsequently, in September 2025, Mara embarked on a loan spell with Auxerre. In the current season (2025 - 2026), the French forward has made one appearance in league matches and is yet to make his mark on the scoresheet for his loan club.
