Simon Murray, a Scottish forward born on 15 March 1992, currently plies his trade as the leading striker for Dundee. Standing at 1.82m (or 5ft 11in in Imperial units) and tipping the scales at a lean 70kg (equivalent to 11 stone), Murray sports the number 15 jersey for his club. His market value is valued modestly at £170k, according to the well-known football database,Transfermarkt.
Murray's journey through the enthralling world of football began seriously in League One's Montrose back in July 2010. In that initial season, he got his boots properly muddy in league matches just once. Then, in January 2011, for reasons undisclosed, Murray abruptly dropped several tiers and joined Tayport in the Junior Teams in Scotland.
After honing his skills with Tayport for several years, Murray returned to professional football when Arbroath from the Scottish Championship snapped him up in July 2014. That season saw him rack up 35 appearances, accompanied by an impressive tally of 19 goals. His performances caught the eye of Dundee United in the Premiership, which led to a transfer worth £50k in July 2015. Over two seasons there, he accumulated 54 appearances and 17 goals.
In July 2017, another Premiership club, Hibernian, came calling. An underwhelming spell in the 2017 - 2018 season, however, saw him score just six goals in 22 appearances and resulted in a short loan stint to Dundee later in January 2018. His loan period witnessed a similar pattern of performances - 14 appearances and three goals. What's impressive though, is Murray's tenure over two other spells at Dundee, where he put on a remarkable show of scoring 17 goals in 50 appearances, split across the seasons.
Murray's career then took a surprise twist with an international move to South Africa's First Division team, Bidvest Wits, in July 2018, for a sum of £110k. Fast forward to two years later in September 2020, he returned home to Scotland, this time to join the Championship side, Queen's Park, where he regained some form, scoring 15 goals in 22 appearances.
Following a brief stint at Ross County, where he bagged 16 goals in 51 appearances, Murray returned to familiar surroundings with a transfer back to Dundee in July 2024. There, he resumed his goalscoring exploits, boasting an overall return of 17 goals across 50 appearances till date.
