Stephan El Shaarawy, born on 27 October 1992 (age 33), is an Italy international left winger whose career has been shaped far more by Roma than by any of the earlier promise around him. He wears squad number 92 and remains part of Roma’s first-team picture in 2025-2026.
His development came through the familiar route of early senior football and loan experience before his name properly hardened at AC Milan. The standout season of that period was 2012-2013, when he scored 16 league goals in 37 appearances. That remains his most productive league campaign, and it set a level he has never quite repeated.
Roma, though, is where the bulk of the work has been done. Across 10 seasons he has made 259 league appearances and scored 52 league goals for the club, a long enough spell to move him well beyond the category of useful attacking option. He has not always been the main act, but he has lasted, which at Roma is not a minor achievement.
In 2025-2026, El Shaarawy has still been involved regularly: 20 Serie A appearances with one goal, plus one Coppa Italia outing and seven in the Europa League, where he has also scored once. Across all competitions for Roma this season, he has made 28 appearances and scored two goals. His current market value is around £3m, according to Transfermarkt.
El Shaarawy’s career is no longer about potential. It is the story of an early peak at Milan, a long Roma spell, and a winger who, into his thirties, is still trusted often enough to matter.
