Steve Welsh, born on the 19th of January in the year 2000, now 24, hails from Scotland. As a solid central defender for Celtic Football Club, Welsh isn't just known for his robust defensive skills, but also for standing at a towering 6ft 3 in (1.91m) and weighing at a sturdy 12st 3lb (78kg). He proudly dons the No. 57 jersey and has performed his duties honourably on the pitch not just for his club, but also for the Scotland U21 national team.
Welsh embarked on his professional journey with Celtic back in July 2017 as a trainee. From the initiation into the first team during the 2019-2020 season, Welsh made a single league appearance. This was only the beginning of what has become a substantive career with Celtic, as the 2020-2021 season saw him pulling on the green and white hoops for 16 league matches and bagging his first goal. He continued his momentum into the 2021-2022 season by making ten appearances whilst the 2022-2023 season witnessed him score another goal amidst four appearances.
After a short expedition away from Celtic Park, in August 2019, Welsh was loaned to Greenock Morton in the Championship. But his loan period was short-lived as he returned to Celtic in January 2020.
Despite a slow start post his return with one league appearance in the 2019-2020 season, Welsh's game time gradually ramped up into the following seasons. A total of 16 appearances and one goal in 2020-2021 was followed by ten appearances in 2021-2022. The 2022-2023 season similarly saw him make four appearances with one goal, while ten appearances marked his 2023-2024 season. As of the current season of 2024-2025, Welsh's first team appearances have been yet to kick-off.
Welsh isn't just confined to domestic football, having represented Celtic on the international stage as well. He participated in the Champions League during the 2023-2024 season and started one match. On the national front, he was part of the squad for the League Cup 2024-2025 starting a single match. In the Scottish Cup 2023-2024, he also made a notable contribution with two starts and one appearance as a substitute.
