In August 1992, Slater crossed the border, joining Celtic Football Club in the Scottish Premiership for a fee of approximately £1.5m. His goal scoring, however, remained relatively modest. Slater was assigned to Leicester City in September 1996, but unfortunately failed to make any appearances during his short spell in the club.
