Sven Botman, born on 12 January 2000 (age 26), is a Netherlands central defender with Newcastle United, where he wears squad number 4. A commanding 6ft 4in (1.93m), he is valued at around £35.5m by Transfermarkt.
His Lille spell gave him a solid platform in senior football. The 2021–22 league season was his most productive in front of goal, with three goals in 25 appearances, a useful return for a centre-half rather than anything requiring a brass band.
Botman is still a regular first-team presence for Newcastle in 2025–26. He has made 38 appearances across all competitions, scoring twice, with 25 of those outings coming in the Premier League. He has also featured in the FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League, adding a European goal to his domestic one.
His career to this point has been straightforward enough: a Dutch defender who built his reputation at Lille and has become an established part of Newcastle’s back line. He remains in the side and, for now, that is the relevant point.
