Teemu Pukki, a Finnish forward born on 29th March 1990, is a robust player, standing at 5ft 10in (1.8m) and weighing 12st 8lb (80kg). Wearing the number 20 jersey for HJK, Pukki has a proven track record as a seasoned marksman on both club and international fronts, having represented the Finnish national team. He began his professional career as a trainee at KooTeePee in Finland's Kakkonen in January 2006.
He started slowly, making a mere four appearances in his debut season, but by the following season, Pukki was becoming a key fixture in the squad with 23 appearances and three goals to his name. His efforts did not go unnoticed, and in August 2008, Pukki was snapped up by Spanish LaLiga side Sevilla for approximately £1.4m. Nonetheless, his stint in Spain was rather uneventful, with a single appearance for the first team.
Returning to his homeland in August 2010, Pukki joined HJK Helsinki for an undisclosed fee. His grasp was much stronger here, racking up 26 appearances and scoring 13 goals across two seasons. A return to form and the promise of a lucrative deal saw him switch teams again in August 2011, this time heading to Schalke 04 in Germany for around £1.4m. Though he had sporadic streaks of form, his overall performance in Germany fell quite below his usual standard with 37 appearances and eight goals across three seasons.
Despite a lukewarm stint in Germany, Pukki’s career took a decisive turn in August 2013 with a £3m worth move to Scottish Premier League side Celtic FC. Initially, he demonstrated his worth with seven goals in 26 appearances but was subsequently side-lined, managing only a solitary appearance in the following season.
In September 2014, Pukki was loaned out to Brondby in Denmark, which later became his permanent home in a £600k transfer deal the following year. Pukki thrived with Brondby, scoring 44 goals across four seasons while making important contributions to the team’s standing in the Superliga.
Pukki’s next chapter started in July 2018 when he joined Norwich City in England's Championship. His time at Norwich bore testament to his undying resilience and goal-scoring prowess, as he netted 105 goals in 196 appearances across five seasons.
In July 2023, the Finnish international began his journey in the MLS with Minnesota United. The shift in geography did little to hinder his form as he smashed in 14 goals in only 35 appearances across two seasons. In January 2025, Pukki returned to his old stomping ground at HJK, a move which reinvigorated his game drastically, as he found the back of the net consistently with a tally of 14 goals in his very first season back on home soil.
Aside from his decorated club career, Pukki also serves as a vital asset to his national side. He took part in the World Cup Qualifiers Europe 2024 - 2026 for Finland with four appearances as a substitute, and the Conference League Qualifiers 2025 - 2026 for HJK, in which he scored one goal in four starts.
