Victor Wanyama, hailing from Kenya and born on 25 June 1991, is an acclaimed midfielder primarily functioning within the role of a central defensive midfielder. His imposing stature stands at 1.84m (6ft) and weighs in at a sturdy 87kg (13st 9lb).
Having made his debut in the realm of international football by representing the Kenyan national team, Wanyama’s career escalated when he joined Belgian side Beerschot AC in the Vierde Klasse in July 2008. His first team appearances increased substantially over three seasons at Beerschot AC, going from a mere one appearance in his first season to blossoming into a consistent force with 26 appearances and scoring his first goal in the 2010 - 2011 season.
A significant chapter in Wanyama's journey emerged in July 2011, when he was welcomed into the Celtic fold, transferring from Beerschot AC for a fee close to £900,000. Wanyama's tenure at Celtic proved special. In his inaugural season at Celtic (2011 - 2012), Wanyama made an impressive 29 first team appearances, managing to find the back of the net four times. His contributions were even more prolific in the 2012 - 2013 season, with 32 club appearances and an increased tally of six goals, further cementing his status as a Celtic hero.
His Celtic days drew to a close in July 2013 when he made a significant move, a transfer to Southampton for around £13m. Wanyama's career in England continued to flourish as he made 23 first team appearances in his debut season. He was a consistent presence over his three seasons at Southampton, making a total of 85 appearances and scoring four goals.
In July 2016, yet another significant transfer occurred for Wanyama as he ascended to Tottenham Hotspur for a transfer fee around £11m. His time at Tottenham was marked by regular appearances and occasional goals, with a notable 18 appearances and one goal in the 2017 - 2018 season.
Following his time in England, in March 2020, Wanyama ventured across the pond to CF Montreal in the MLS, where he has continued to be a key part of the team, even serving as their field general in the 2024 season.
History echoed itself when, in November 2024, Wanyama returned to Scotland's Championship, this time to join Dunfermline Athletic. As of June 2025, it was announced that he will be making a move from Dunfermline Athletic, signalling another intriguing chapter in the storied career of Victor Wanyama.
