Viljami Sinisalo, hailing from the wintry climes of Finland and born on 11 October 2001, has made his mark on the beautiful game as a formidable presence in goal. Standing imposingly at 6ft 5in (1.96m) and tipping the scales at 13st 9lb (87kg), Sinisalo provides an intimidating obstacle between the sticks. He presently plies his trade with Celtic, donning the number 12 jersey with a uniquely Nordic aplomb. A patriot as well as a prodigy, Sinisalo has had the honour of representing his native Finland at international level.
His current market valuation rests comfortably at approximately £1.00m, as stated by football statistical authority, Transfermarkt.
Before the hooped jerseys of Celtic and the rugged international stakes of Finnish football, however, there was a lengthy apprenticeship in England’s footballing leagues. Sinisalo’s baptism in British football took place in July 2018, when he journeyed from Finland to join the ranks of Premier League side Aston Villa as a trainee goalkeeper.
A series of loan stints then followed for the young man from Finland. His first assignment after his development period with Villa was at Ayr United in Scotland’s Championship, commencing in September 2020. June 2021 saw him return to Aston Villa, the completion of his loan spell coinciding with a move back south.
In July 2022, Sinisalo found himself on the move once more, this time heading out on loan to League One team Burton Albion. Here he gained precious first-team experience, making four league appearances in his debut 2022-2023 season. With this temporary assignment completed in December 2022, he returned once more to his parent club Aston Villa.
Another loan spell beckoned in July 2023, with Exeter City stepping up to offer Sinisalo further chances to hone his talent in League One. His exploits between the posts wouldn’t go unnoticed, with Scottish Premiership side Celtic stumping up around £1m in July 2024 to bring Sinisalo north of the border for a more permanent engagement.
The Finnish keeper is now in his second season at Celtic. His first season in Scotland (2024-2025) saw Sinisalo make six appearances in league matches, and the current season (2025-2026) is yet young, with Sinisalo still to make his maiden appearance. In the 2025 - 2026 League Cup, Sinisalo was given two starts by Celtic, further underlining his growing reputation at club level. Meanwhile, at the international level, he has two starts for Finland in the World Cup Qualifiers Europe (2024 - 2026) and a start in the Euro Qualifiers (2022 - 2024).
