Wout Weghorst, born on 7 August 1992 (age 33), is a Netherlands striker with Ajax, where he wears number 25. A towering 6ft 6in (1.97m) centre-forward, he has built a long career around penalty-box work, aerial presence and a fair amount of persistence.
His senior career began in the Netherlands, with an early loan spell at FC Emmen helping to give him regular football before he moved on through Heracles Almelo and AZ. Those years mattered. Weghorst was not fast-tracked into prominence; he worked his way up, scoring steadily enough to earn a move abroad.
Wolfsburg was the spell that pushed him properly into view. His best league season came in 2020–21, when he scored 20 goals in 34 Bundesliga appearances. That level of output brought him to Burnley, followed by loan spells at Besiktas, Manchester United and Hoffenheim, each with varying degrees of usefulness and fuss.
He is now back in Dutch football with Ajax and remains a regular first-team presence in 2025–26. Across all competitions for Ajax this season, he has made 34 appearances and scored nine goals, including eight goals in 27 Eredivisie matches and one in five Champions League appearances. He has also made six appearances for the Netherlands in World Cup qualifying.
His current market value is around £3.5m, according to Transfermarkt. Weghorst’s career has moved from Dutch development football to the Bundesliga, England, Turkey and back to Ajax, with his role still clear enough: an experienced striker who continues to contribute at first-team level.
