The European Cup will make an appearance at a new schools football competition named after one of Celtic’s most decorated players.
The Bobby Lennox Challenge Cup will take place in April and May and will involve 100 kids from four local secondary schools: Ardrossan, Auchenharvie, Kilwinning and St Matthew’s.
Each school will be represented by a boys team from S2 and a girls team picked from S1-S3.
The semi finals will kick off at 16:15 on Thursday the 27th of April at Jack’s Park.
Gerry McCulloch of Clyde 1 Super Scoreboard conducted the semi final draw with Mark McClure of the Statue for Bobby campaign, and Pat Breen of Breen Roofing, the competition’s main sponsor.
The draw for the girls section was:
Ardrossan v St Matthew’s
Kilwinning v Auchenharvie
The draw for the boys was the same:
Kilwinning v Auchenharvie
St Matthew’s v Ardrossan
Drinks and refreshments will be provided in the dance studio in St Matthew’s. The studio has a great view of the pitch, so spectators can watch the game from inside or come and go as they please.
Local club Ardrossan Winton Rovers will host the final on Friday the 5th of May, with kick-off at 16:30.
Celtic FC will show its support for the competition by sending down the European Cup for the afternoon. Make sure you take the opportunity to get a photo with this magnificent trophy!
Come along to the semi final and final to roar on your old school. As anyone who’s taken part in these fixtures knows, the bragging rights are massive.
The Bobby Lennox Challenge Cup is being organised in conjunction with Bruce McMaster at North Ayrshire Active Schools, who aim to offer high quality opportunities for young people in the community to be active.
