Carl Starfelt, born in Stockholm on 1 June 1995 (age 30), is a Swedish central defender now with Celta Vigo. Before Celtic, his most productive league season came at Rubin Kazan in 2020–21, when he scored three goals in 29 appearances.
Celtic signed him from Rubin Kazan in July 2021 for around £4m. His two years in Glasgow were functional rather than flashy, which is not the worst description for a centre-half. He left Celtic in August 2023 for Celta Vigo, where he has remained a regular part of the first-team picture.
In 2025–26, Starfelt has made 19 LaLiga appearances, one Copa del Rey appearance and 11 Europa League appearances for Celta, scoring once in Europe. He has also been involved with Sweden, making three World Cup qualifying appearances this season.
Now wearing squad number 4 at Celta Vigo, he is valued at around £4.5m by Transfermarkt. His career has taken him from Sweden to Russia, then Celtic, and on to Spain, where he remains an established first-team defender.
