Carl Starfelt, born in Stockholm on 1 June 1995 (age 31), is a Swedish central defender now with Celta Vigo. Before Celtic, his most productive league season came at Rubin Kazan in 2020-21, when he scored three times in 29 appearances.
Celtic signed him from Rubin Kazan in July 2021 for around £4m. He arrived as a defender with a clear job to do rather than a great mystery to solve, and his two years in Glasgow were built on regular centre-back work rather than decoration.
Starfelt left Celtic in August 2023 for Celta Vigo. In 2026-27 he has made two LaLiga appearances and one Copa del Rey appearance for the Spanish club, while also featuring for Sweden in World Cup and European qualifying matches. His market value is around £4.5m, according to Transfermarkt.
His career has taken him from Sweden to Russia, then to Celtic and on to Spain. It is a solid enough route for an established international centre-half, without needing much dressing up.
