Celta Vigo, founded in 1923, are one of Spain’s established top-flight names, based at the Estadio Abanca-Balaídos in Galicia. Their current squad is valued at around £147m by Transfermarkt, with 27 players and an average age of 26.
Their 2026-27 campaign has been a tight, rather low-scoring affair. Celta sit sixteenth in LaLiga and have also competed in the Europa League League Phase, though their domestic numbers point to a side short of attacking rhythm: 0.5 goals scored per home match, and just 0.3 away.
There is some early-game threat – they have scored the first goal inside 20 minutes in six of 15 league matches – but the output has not carried through the side. Iago Aspas Juncal and Carl Starfelt are listed as joint top scorers with one goal each, which says enough about the margins they have been working with.
Recent league form has been stubborn rather than convincing: draws at Getafe and Real Sociedad followed defeats to Athletic Bilbao and Osasuna, with a 1-0 win over Sevilla the only victory in the last six. For Celtic supporters, Celta look like a technically credible Spanish opponent, but one currently operating near the lower end of LaLiga.
