Enter onto the pitch one Djeidi Gassama, a 22-year-old Mauritanian sensation. This chap primarily dances on the left wing, that's for Rangers, mind you. His genetic fortune has blessed him with a stature of 5ft 9in (1.77m) and he tips the scales at 11st (70kg). You'll find this lad clashing colours on the pitch in his unfashionable number 23 jersey. As reported by Transfermarkt, he's currently valued at about £3.5m. Guess there's no accounting for taste.
We first found young Gassama earning his spurs as a trainee with Paris Saint-Germain in France in July 2019, where he dazzled all and sundry with a grand total of one first team appearance in the league during the thriving 2021-2022 season. Rather enriching, I dare say.
Our hero then packed his bags for a little jaunt to Eupen in Belgium's Challenger Pro League, courtesy of a loan from Paris Saint-Germain in September 2022. This little adventure saw him make 19 appearances, netting two marvelous goals. Thrills abound.
August 2023 saw Gassama's talents wasted on Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship for an undisclosed fee. At Sheffield, he clocked up 35 appearances and scored three goals in the 2023-2024 season – not exactly shaking the leaves off the old oak tree. The following season, he managed a dizzying 43 appearances with an awe-inspiring tally of seven goals. The fans, I'm sure, were positively giddy.
Onwards and upwards for this footballing leviathan, and July 2025 saw him packing his kit bag and heading north of the border to the sunny Scottish Premiership with Rangers. Gassama was snapped up for a cool £2.2m by the Gers. In his current season, he's been allowed to soil the pitch 21 times, where he has managed to stay awake long enough to bag one goal. Truly the stuff of legends.
Just to round things off, our man has had a twirl in the League Cup with one start and one appearance as a substitute, the Champions League Qualifiers where he conjured up four goals from four starts and two appearances as a sub, and the Europa League where he, bless his heart, managed one goal in six starts. Oh, what a time to be alive for Djeidi Gassama.
