Born on 6 July 2002 in Moldova, the towering defender Iurie Iovu, who currently plies his trade at Dundee United, boasts an imposing physical presence at the back, standing at 6ft 5in (1.96m) and weighing 12st 1lb (77kg). The 23-year-old dons the number 4 jersey and in addition to his club commitments, represents his birth nation at the international level.

Before venturing to the Scottish Isles, Iovu's football journey saw him at several clubs across Europe. His professional stint began in July 2021 at Serie A outfit, Cagliari. A year later, Iovu completed a transfer to Serie B side Venezia. His stint there lasted a brief month as he then moved to Istra 1961 in the HNL, Croatia on loan.
During his debut season (2022-2023) in Croatia, Iovu made three first team appearances in league matches. In the following season (2023 - 2024), the Moldovan had grown into a regular starter, making 11 first team appearances in league matches. In his final season (2024-2025) with Istra 1961, Iovu made 14 first team appearances in league matches.
After a fruitful loan spell, Iovu's move to Istra 1961 was made permanent in January 2023 for an undisclosed fee. He continued his development with a loan spell to LaLiga side Alavés in the opening half of 2025.
In an intriguing move in July 2025, Iovu left Croatia for Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership. The Tangerines secured his services for a nominal fee of approximately £170k. So far in 2025-2026 season, Iovu continues to stamp his mark in defence having made 16 first team appearances in league matches.
