Jack Butland, born on 10 March 1993 (age 33), is an English goalkeeper with Hull City. A commanding 6ft 5in (1.96m) presence, he came through at Birmingham City before getting the sort of early senior football that tends to matter more than reputation.
His loan spell at Cheltenham Town in 2011-12 was the important one. Butland made 24 league appearances there, the most sustained league run of his early career, and it gave him a proper grounding away from the academy circuit.
Stoke City then became the main stretch of his senior career, followed by spells including Crystal Palace and a loan at Manchester United. That period at United brought him a League Cup winners’ medal, though as a back-up rather than a central figure in the side.
He later had a high-profile spell at Rangers before moving on to Hull City. His current market value is around £1.5m, according to Transfermarkt. His career has been that of an experienced English goalkeeper who had early promise, a long top-flight education, and enough miles on the clock to know the job plainly.
