Aye, let's talk about Jason Holt then – born on a frosty February day in 1993, a bonny lad from Scotland who spent most of his time running around, kicking a ball, and now gets paid to do exactly that at St Johnstone. Coming in at a towering 5ft 4in (that's 1.64m for those of you who converse in metric), he tips the scales at a rock-solid 11st (or 70kg, for all you continental types). Holt dons number 7 on his back and adds a splash of unremarkable to the St Johnstone midfield.
According to the wizards at Transfermarkt, Holt is valued at an astronomical £256k. This wee princely sum is probably tucked away under some merchant banker's mattress. The lad seems content enough at St Johnstone, with his contract running almost another two years until the fateful day of 31 May 2026.
Holt's foray into the glamorous world of footballing began in the 2010-2011 season when he gallantly managed a single first team appearance for Hearts. Then, for some inexplicable reason, he had to go to Raith Rovers a year later, where he notched up five appearances and bagged a goal. However, the hearts of Hearts' supporters proved too strong, pulling him back to make three on-and-off seasons peppered with sporadic goals.
In the 2014-2015 season, Holt ambled his way to Sheffield United, gracing the pitch 16 times and scoring five goals. Apparently, the weather was too good in England, so he packed his bags and sauntered back up to Scotland, chasing the chill and a part of the Old Firm – Rangers. At Rangers, he saw fluctuating success over three seasons, with his time on the pitch dwindling from 32 appearances (netting ten goals) in his first season, to 26 by his last (scoring only twice).
He then spent a stint at St Johnstone, where he played 17 times in the 2019-2020 season. Holt must have an aversion to stability because he moved on again, this time to Livingston, where he spent four seasons shuffling around the pitch, with appearances and goals as intermittent as a Glasgow sun.
The prodigal son returned to St Johnstone in the 2024-2025 season where, as the tale goes, he's only managed three appearances thus far. Aye, Jason Holt, a tale of ambition, grit, and a lot of football clubs. More moves than the Hokey Cokey. Bagful of goals?! Not so much.
