Joe Chalmers, born on 3 January 1994 (age 32), is a Scottish central defensive midfielder whose early senior path included a brief stop at Celtic before his career settled into the familiar churn of the Scottish game.
He joined Celtic from Falkirk in July 2014. It was a short stay rather than a breakthrough, and he moved on to Motherwell in July 2015. That spell still matters in the shape of his career: Celtic was the early high-profile step, but most of his football came elsewhere.
After Motherwell, Chalmers had spells with Inverness CT, Ross County and Ayr United before establishing himself more fully at Dunfermline Athletic. His most productive league season came at Ross County in 2019–20, when he scored three goals in 14 appearances.
Chalmers later returned to Inverness CT, where in 2025–26 he has made one League Cup appearance and one Scottish Cup appearance. His career has been that of an established Scottish professional, moving through solid clubs and finding his longer foothold away from Celtic.
