Well, let's talk about this glorious jaunt through Scottish football, courtesy of Mr Liam Kelly. Born in the grand year of 1996, he's been gracing pitches with his quite average height of 6ft 2ins (1.89m for those dealing in metrics) and a physique nudging the scales at 12st 12lbs (82kg). His position of choice? Goalkeeper, a role he's taken quite literally to heart wearing the number 31 jersey for our dear Rangers. On top of a domestic career that I'm sure keeps him busy, he's also represented our proud Scotland National team.
Sporting life for Liam kicked off in 2004, Rangers took him in, nurturing his skill in the Premiership. In a stellar season of 2024-2025, no less than ten appearances were tallied for him, but, alas, in the current season of 2025-2026, Mr Kelly is yet to step onto the first team pitch.
The boy ventured away from Rangers in a brief stint at East Fife in 2016, on a mere loan from the Premiership to League One. He managed 16 appearances that season, truly made one fear for the state of East Fife's goalie reserves. After his debut season, Rangers summoned him back, presumably aching for his touch.
Another return to Rangers followed a brief sojourn to Livingston in the 2016-2017 season. Our intrepid shot-stopper made his presence known with 34 appearances that season, and 36 in the 2018-2019 cycle. The loan was short-lived, and he was brought to heel at Rangers again with a modest ten appearances in 2024-2025. Are we detecting a pattern here?
Breaking the monotony, Mr Kelly finally relocated permanently to Livingston in 2018, the fee – truly ground-breaking – was undisclosed. Yes, you read right, undisclosed. After repeating his previous track record, Queens Park Rangers nabbed him in 2019 for another undisclosed fee.
Then, it seemed our fair wanderer couldn't resist the bonnie banks of home and returned to Scotland in 2021 to try his hand (or gloves) with Motherwell. First on loan, then as a permanent player from 2021. The seasons of 2020-2024 marked his lively period, around 38 appearances a pop.
Very faithful to previous form, a full circle was completed in 2024 and he was back in the familiar confines of Rangers. Again not exactly eating up the pitch with appearances. However, he did start in the League Cup 2025-2026 and twice in the Scottish Cup that same season.
Thus concludes the enchanting journey of Liam Kelly, the keeper that proves you can indeed go home - several times.
