Well, well, well. Here we are, discussing the bottomless football exploit of our beloved Liam Kelly, the raven-haired lad born on a chilly January day in 1996, now seasoning the ripe old age of 29. This crafty goalkeeper, standing tall at 6ft 2in (or 1.89m for our metric-loving pals) and weighing in at a sturdy 12st 12lb (or 82 kilos for the continental types), is currently taking up residence up in the Rangers' ranks, proudly sporting the number 31 on his jersey.
Our dear Kelly not only playfully dances around the Scottish pitches but has also been graced with the honour of representing the Scotland national team—needless to say, a lot of haggis blood pumping through those veins.
The lad's story starts in July of 2004, joining the bonnie ranks of Rangers. Kelly's 2024-2025 season has seen him making impressive appearances on the old footie pitch, showing up in six league matches in stunning form.
However, our aspiring goalkeeper's tale experienced a slight detour come January 2016, as he gambolled off to East Fife in League Two on loan. Topping off his debut season with 16 first team appearances, Kelly took a hasty retreat back to his homeland on Rangers' turf by July 2016.
Ever the restless soul though, wasn't he? Come July 2016, he took another trip away from Rangers, landing himself a loan at Livingston, residing over the Championship in Scotland. In the 2016-2017 and 2018-2019 seasons, Kelly showed himself to be no slouch, punching out 34 and 36 appearances respectively.
Ah, but home is where the heart is, ain't it? In July 2017, our ambitious goalie returned once again to the arms of Rangers. However, the lad's starry eyes got the better of him, and in July 2018 he transferred his talents to Livingston for an undisclosed fee.
Just when you thought he'd finally found his footing, off he shuffled again in July 2019, this time making his way to sunny Queens Park Rangers, surely hoping for a slice of that jellied eel. Far be it from me to question his tastes. During the 2019-2020 season, Kelly demonstrated his worth with 19 appearances.
The change of air, it seems, wasn't to our lad's favour. Come January 2021 and he found himself on the move again, this time on loan to Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership. Between 2020 and 2024, Kelly saw a remarkable spell of consistency, with 18 and 38 appearances recorded for Motherwell across the four seasons.
In July 2021, Kelly made a permanent move from Queens Park Rangers to Motherwell for yet another undisclosed fee. A connoisseur of the mysterious, this one, innit?
Alas, what's this? Another twist in the tale! In July 2024, Kelly returned to Rangers. Yes, you heard that right, back to where it all began. All around and full of banter, this merry-go-round led him back to the heartlands of his youth. What's next for our trusty goalie? Only time will tell. One thing's for sure though, he certainly brought a spice of life — and a lot of movement — to the good old Scottish football.
In his recent exploit, the 2024 - 2025 Scottish Cup saw the nimble Kelly making a single start for Rangers. Quite a journey, wouldn't you say? It's a wild ride, this football business.
