Tjark Ernst, born on 15 March 2003 (age 23), is a German goalkeeper whose senior career has been shaped almost entirely by Hertha BSC. A commanding 6ft 4in (1.93m) presence, he wears the number 1 shirt and has become a regular part of the first team rather than a prospect being kept warm for later.
Hertha is where the substance of his career sits. Across five seasons he has made 88 league appearances for the Berlin club, with his role growing from the margins into something much more settled. In 2025-2026, he has made 33 league appearances and 34 in all competitions, which says enough about his current standing without needing to dress it up.
His market value is around £3.5m, according to Transfermarkt. He was linked with a move to Celtic in June 2026 while still at Hertha BSC.
Ernst remains a developing goalkeeper, but one with a substantial body of first-team football behind him. His career so far is Hertha BSC first, with everything else still to be written.
