Born on 11 October 2001 in Finland, Viljami Sinisalo has carved out a reputation as a promising goalkeeper, currently playing for Celtic and representing the Finland national team. Towering at a mighty 6ft 5in (1.96m) and tipping the scales at 13st 9lb (87kg), he is a commanding presence between the sticks. His number 12 jersey is well-known among fervent supporters.
The shot-stopper's football journey has seen a fair share of travels around Britain. Originally joining Aston Villa as a trainee in July 2018, and a series of loan spells followed around various clubs in England. He joined the Scottish Championship side Ayr United in September 2020 and returned to Villa upon the completion of his loan in June 2021. Further transfers took him to Burton Albion and Exeter City in England before Celtic beckoned in July 2024. The transfer from Villa to the Bhoys was for a reported fee of approximately £1m (Transfermarkt).
Throughout his time at Burton Albion, Sinisalo had four first team appearances, doing his best to leave an impression despite limited opportunities. As for his time at Celtic? The 2024-2025 season saw Sinisalo making six league match appearances, whereas in the current 2025-2026 season, he has already played seven times.
And his contributions have extended beyond league performances. Besides playing a role in the domestic cups for Celtic with two starts in the League Cup 2025-2026 and three starts in the Scottish Cup 2025-2026, Sinisalo has represented the Finnish national side in the World Cup Qualifiers Europe 2024-2026 with two starts. As if that weren't enough, he's also made his mark in the Europa League 2025-2026 for Celtic with one start.
Considering his relatively young age, the lad from Finland has already packed a fair bit into his still-nascent career. With his current market value hovering around the £1m mark - the sky's the limit for this Finnish keeper. For Celtic fans, the hope will be that his best years are still very much ahead of him.
